Thank you for your interest in taking part in a stained glass workshop at Poppy Glass Studio.

Please note, there is a £50 deposit for each place you would like to purchase for your chosen date, up to a maximum of 4 places.

Depending on the course you choose, the balance will vary, but can be paid by cash, card or bank transfer on the day.

Outline of course options

Stained glass work is either created using copper foil or lead. Typically, larger pieces such as church windows are in lead whilst suncatchers and other smaller pieces are in copper foil.

Stained Glass Garden Ladder – £70.00 per person

2-3 hour duration.

Create a ladder measuring 80cm tall in a sturdy zinc frame, ready for you to take home and display in your garden. All materials and tuition are included, and at the end of our 2-3 hour workshop you will have your very own masterpiece.

Suncatcher in Copper Foil – £60 per person

3-4 hour duration.

Suitable for people of all skill levels. On this course you will learn to cut glass and shape it to follow a simple design. You will be shown how to use a variety of tools and will leave with a suncatcher roughly the size of your hand. (design options are provided)

Candle Box in Copper Foil – £100 per person

Approx 6 hour duration.

Suitable for those looking to expand their knowledge.

Available for up to 4 people at a time, spend a day in the studio learning how to cut glass, work with various tools, select glass that compliments a 3D design, and assemble in copper foil and solder. At the end of the day you will go home with a free standing 4 sided candle box.

A5 Panel in Copper Foil – £100 per person

Approx 6 hour duration.

Suitable for those looking to expand their knowledge.

Available for up to 4 people at a time, spend a day in the studio learning how to cut glass, work with various tools, select glass that compliments a 3D design, and assemble in copper foil and solder. At the end of the day you will go home with an A5 size stained glass panel.

A4 panel in lead – £120 per person

Approx 6 hour duration.

Available for up to 4 people at a time, spend a day in the studio learning how to cut and shape glass and fit to a simple leaded panel that you will be able to take home at the end of the day.

The skills you are shown in the class are very much the same that have worked in this traditional art form for hundreds of years (although we do have the advantage of electricity). Please note, this is a more physically demanding day than copper foil.

Price breakdown – per person:

• Garden Ladder Workshop – £50 deposit, £20 on the day
• Sundatcher in Copper Foil – £50 deposit, £10 on the day
• Candle Box in Copper Foil – £50 deposit, £50 on the day
• A5 Panel in Copper Foil – £50 deposit, £50 on the day
• A4 Panel in Lead – £50 deposit, £70 on the day

Please also be aware that access to the studio is via a steep driveway, and nine steps.

Workshops start at 9:30am on a Monday or Friday, 10am on weekends.

Alternative arrangements can be made, but you will need to contact the studio directly.

Refreshments

Tea, coffee and cold drinks are available and included in the cost of your workshop. If you have chosen a full day workshop, please bring a packed lunch.

Health and Safety

Health and safety guidance is given throughout the day, but all tasks are undertaken at your own risk. We advise you to wear old clothes and tie back long hair. Please ensure you wear fully enclosed shoes and avoid wearing scarves or floaty materials. Windows will be open so if the weather is not favourable please bring layers. If you use reading glasses, please bring them. You will work with lead chemicals, sharp glass and heat throughout. Failure to follow safety guidance may see your workshop terminated without refund.

Directions

All workshops are held in our custom built studio at 14 St Bartholomews Close, Cam, GL11 5UR.

To find it turn off Manor Ave onto Shutehay Drive, take the 2nd turning on the right then the next right. The house with the steep drive at the end of the cul-de-sac is no. 14. The gate to the right side will be open, please come on through, the studio is at the top of the garden, you can’t miss it.

Street parking is available.
