December 2021 Newsletter

Welcome to December!

I’m saying it. I know some of you are still hoping for the dreaded day to not arrive, but CHRISTMAS is in full flow in the studio! All the workshops seem very themed towards decorations, gifts and general festivities, it may even be time to put up some fairy lights! With a very short window to make and post, the cut off for orders that I can guarantee will be with you by Christmas is Monday 6th December, unless you can collect from the studio in which case the cut off for those orders will be Wednesday 15th December.

What's been happening in the studio?

So we made it, 12 months of suncatcher designs now released to the world. For those who have made it to the 10 mark, your free Christmas suncatcher will be in the post very shortly, I really hope you enjoy it, and would like to thank you for your support throughout 2021.

For those of you who would like to purchase the Father Christmas face, the link is below.

The one day workshops have started up again at long last. Prize going to Emma, who has waited since booking at the end of 2019! We had a lovely day creating candle boxes, and wow they looked fab!

I have had a number of lovely commissions over the last month, several nativity sets for those that know how busy my order book gets, a wonderful spray of Lily of the valley, that I am now listing in my shop as a limited edition, (please check out the link below) I have also been creating some top secret orders for Christmas presents, so I won’t spill the beans for anyone who may be listening.

I’m not sure if I shared with you my finished showstopper creations, entitled - Do you still see me? And Looked through.

I wanted to look at the idea that as women get older, far too often they fade from view. They are overlooked, forgotten, and a shadow of who they could really be. I created my two ladies to be hiding their faces, but otherwise to be incredible. Flawless bodies, perfect outfits, and long flowing hair. The hats they wear hide away their faces, leaving the viewer to ponder what they may look like. Each panel is unique, framed in wood and back lit with led lighting. They are available for sale at £249 each.

Working with glass top tip

My tip this month is based around soldering. For those that work with copper foil, getting a smooth finish can be frustrating. My pointers to help you out:
  • Make sure your foil is firmly burnished fo the glass.
  • Apply flux along the joint, it helps the solder to flow evenly.
  • Always work with a chisel tip to your soldering iron, make sure that the end of the tip is at a right angle to the line you want to solder.
  • Keep the movement of the iron slow and stready. Don’t brush at it as if you were painting, and don’t rush. Let the solder melt and move evenly.
  • Breathe!
