Welcome to our second edition!
|
Hello and welcome to the second edition of our monthly newsletter. When I sat down to write this, I honestly didn’t think I would be able to fill it with enough new things for you, but I was quickly reminded of all the wonderful creations both by yours truly and by the lovely students that I get to share the studio with. Through rain and shine (not had any thunder yet, but this is south west England so I’m sure it’s just around the corner) the studio has been a hive of activity.

What's been happening?
Its been fun juggling the heat from part of the month in the little studio, classes have been dotted with fans when it got super hot, and I have never been more grateful to the rules on ventilation meaning all the doors and windows are wide open!
|
That said it has still been a hectic month as always. 3 new small designs have left the work boards, including the brand new suncatcher of the month further down in this news letter.

I’ve been finally able to create a life size (almost, I haven’t caught one to check) magpie design, freestanding and looking fabulous. I bought the glass for this project some time ago, and our local resident magpie has taunted me daily until I finally set to.
|
|
|
|
Alongside this I have been working on a bigger project that will be unveiled at the Tyndale arts week the beginning of October. I am one of the key speakers giving a talk during the week, so I have been a busy bee researching further and finding out all sorts of fascinating facts and breathtaking images to share. Please do look at the Tyndale arts week website and if local why not pop along and see what all the fuss is about.

Restoration work has continued as well, some lovely windows in need of a little bit of TLC given fresh lead and repairs to the sadly cracked glass. Now if only they could make glass that would only crack when you want it to!
|
Next weekend I am once again going to be at the Dursley Craft Market, I am feverishly working away at making sure there is enough stock to sell to all my lovely customers, the kookie birds, although diminished in number will of course be making an appearance, as will other firm favourites such as the rainbow hearts and the bees and their bee hives. Please do drop by if you are nearby, Saturday August 7th, 9.30-2pm. Last month we had the addition of live music and bacon butties available from the Bank Cafe, worth the visit!

From the studio
I’m sharing with you as always the brand new suncatcher of the month, loved making some summery ice creams!!
|
I am also sharing with you the new and improved beehive design, slightly altered from before but looking just as lovely, and of course with little bees flying around in silver.
|

Working with glass top tip
My tip for you this month is a little trick I learnt when working with a slightly wider solder seam than you would have preferred. As you heat the solder it can drop down through the gap, not allowing the beautiful rounded bead line you are aiming for. Thoroughly soak a tea towel in cold water and place it as a mat below the project. Then solder over the line again, making sure not to over work the solder. The cold damp from below will stop the solder heating all the way through the bead and should allow you to complete a smooth finish as you are aiming for.
