Welcome to November!

I found myself today pondering the many animals that seem to be represented in glass, both in traditional stained glass windows and I the modern artwork, from suncatchers up to giant installations. I was at the time completing a small fox for a student that can’t currently come to workshops due to other commitments, and alongside it was a kingfisher commission awaiting foiling. Yesterday I posted off amongst other orders a little Robin, and I have plans to create a large wolf panel. I even had penguins and swans sat ready to wrap for the Christmas markets! Clearly animals all around.

So here we are already into November. How is this possible? Christmas feels just around the corner, and if like me you are not at all prepared, it’s starting to feel a bit daunting isn’t it.

What's been happening in the studio?

I realise it has been a couple of months since you last heard from me, and I can only apologise. October saw me exhibiting as part of the Tyndale Arts trail, which also saw an incredible number of visitors to the show as a whole and those who bought pieces of art from me. I am always truly humbled when people want to buy my work, and the start of October was certainly no different. Click here to view a short video clip to see the display in more detail.

As part of the show I unveiled a panel that has huge significance to myself, and my daughters. I am so proud of it I must share with you all why I created it, and of course the panel itself.

Click here to listen to the song that inspired the panel.

I first heard a song early in 2020. It struck a cord. It talked of wildness, of listening to nature, of being free and proud of a stubborn fierce side to yourself. It talked to me of ignoring the ‘rules’. It talked to me of my own two daughters.

My daughters love nature. They have wild hair that is tangled and blowing in the wind far more often than it is tamed by a brush. This song was about them. They are my savage daughters and I couldn’t be prouder of them.

I created a scene of tall twisting trees, pebble strewn streams (at the strict instruction of my eldest, she needed stones to walk over). I wanted to show wild long haired girls to be at one with the nature that surrounded them.

From the studio

After a teeny tiny blip last month, I’m sharing with you once more the brand new suncatcher of the month. Please note this is the last suncatcher on the month. Next month will be the Christmas design, which will be sent free to anyone who has purchased at least 8 suncatchers throughout the year. Please don’t place an order if you have reached this target, it will be sent to you automatically. At the end of this year we will be retiring the monthly suncatchers, but rest assured regular pieces will still be released on the website. So this month I bring you a glorious burst of red. A reminder of warm summer eves, of sipping cocktails or a naughty bakery treat. I am of course referring to cherries!! A trio of bright red cherries hanging on a branch, just ripe for picking!

Working with glass top tip

My tip for you this month is a little different. Through practise I have now discovered, play music whilst you work. Something upbeat and fast whilst grinding, and something calm and soothing whilst soldering. Give it a go!!!
Have fun!!
