Poppy Glass Studio Newsletter

Its been a while hasn’t it!! I tell myself on a weekly basis that I need to send out a newsletter, and tell all of you lovely people how much amazingness is happening in the studio, but then the studio gets so busy and before I know it the week has flown again!

So here we are in May already, what is new in the studio?

More workshops

How is that possible? Well apparently whoever I employed to run my diary forgot about this thing called day off. Well sort of, I did have a chat with my children at the start of the year, and it was agreed that workshops wouldn’t be taking place on a Sunday. They are family time, and I’m sure all those in the same boat reading this would agree that family time is as important as work. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have a lot of other dates where I get to see new and returning friendly faces.

Remember, workshops can be booked with a £50 deposit by going to https://poppyglassstudio.co.uk/product/workshop-course-booking/

From here you can select what you want to make, if you are coming by yourself or with up to 3 friends, and most importantly what date you want to do. Sessions run on a Monday, Thursday Friday or Saturday, but do book up fast so don’t hang about!!

If you would like to be added to the group, an alert will be sent out letting you know when you can come along and work on your own project. The space is £12 for the two hours, materials are additional.

Anyone interested, please scan the QR code or click the link to join the group. Messages will only be sent when there is a space available.

Skills and Tips

This month I am sharing a little tip when it comes to copper foiling. Believe it or not there are a number of reasons to consider what colour the back of your foil is. If you are working on transparent glass, you may want to use black backed foil. Once soldered, you are looking not to see any copper showing, so using the black backed foil will ensure that the inside that may be seen through the glass looks like shadow.

However, if you are using a pale glass, or a warm glass shade such as yellow, you may want to use copper backed foil, to prevent that shadow from impacting on the final colour of your design. This image shows the effect. The piece on the right uses black backed foil, whilst on the left its copper backed foil. The difference is striking.
So there we are, I may see you next month, next year, who knows!
